Often triggered by sudden head movements, Vertigo can leave you feeling off balance. And the dizzy spells can become severe enough to feel as though the world around you is spinning out of control.
Falls commonly occur from balance problems in older adults, and lead to more visits to the physician. When there is a disturbance of the inner ear, Vertigo, the feeling that you or the things around you are spinning, is a common symptom. Vertigo can be successfully treated with exercises that specifically target balance improvement. When inner ear problems exist such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), specific head movements can cause vertigo. Other common causes of vertigo include labyrinthitis – an inner ear infection caused by a cold or flu virus and vestibular neuronitis – inflammation of the vestibular nerve.
